Astigmatism is a common vision condition characterized by an imperfection in the curvature of the eye’s cornea or lens. Unlike a perfectly shaped cornea or lens, which would have a smooth, spherical curve like the surface of a basketball, astigmatism involves a cornea or lens with a more oblong shape, akin to a football. This irregularity disrupts the direction of light as it enters the eye, preventing it from focusing properly on the retina and leading to blurred or distorted vision at any distance.
